Fingernail Drug Testing

Finger nail specimen collection is an alternative option for obtaining drug use history. Our experience shows that nail drug testing is many times court ordered or requested by an attorney. However, finger nail drug tests can be used for personal drug testing, corporate drug testing and even pre-employment or random drug testing programs.

Drugs of abuse get deposited into the nails through the blood stream after drugs are ingested. The drug metabolizes and can be found in the finger nail and toe nail tissues up to 4 to 6 months after being ingested. This timeframe is affected by personal growth rates.

The normal timeframe to obtain finger nail drug test results is 24 to 48 Hours if the specimen is negative for drugs of abuse. If specimens are found to be positive for drugs, the specimens can go for further confirmation testing utilizing a medical review officer, which can take an additional 72 hours. All nail drug tests are sent out using overnight express services in order to speed up the results reporting process.
