      Why use a hair drug test?
Hair growth is fed by the bloodstream, so ingestion of drugs of abuse are revealed by analyzing the hair sample. Testing the drug molecules inside the hair shaft eliminate external contamination as a source of a positive test result. Hair test results cannot be altered with external chemicals, bleach, hair coloring dyes or special shampoos. This eliminates the ability for tampering with a hair test specimen.

     Hair drug testing covers a period of approximately 90 days if the head hair sample is cut close to the scalp and is at least 1.5 inches. The standard test with GC/MS confirmation requires approximately 60 milligrams of hair or 90 to 120 strands. The detection period for hair is limited by the length of a hair sample and is approximately 90 days for a standard test. Body hair is used if head hair is too short to test. The time frame of detection of drugs for body hair is approximately one year because the growth pattern of body hair is different and grows at a slower pace than head hair.
